Original Description The publication of an Asterigerina from the lowest Oolitic (Jurassic) by ten Dam and Reinhold in 1941 [1942, Geol. en Mijnbouw, vol. 4, no. 1, pp. 10-11, tfs. 1a-c, 2) was of very great value for the phylogeny of Asterigerina. They described an Asterigerina from the lowest Oolitic, earlier described as Discorbis from the same layers in Germany, Asterigerina dreheri (Bartenstein). Thanks to the kindness of Director Reinhold and Dr. Voorthuysen, I could study the originals and topotypes in the Geologische Stichting in Haarlem. Asterigerina dreheri was not a real Asterigerina, but a very closely related new genus, which may be the ancestor of the Asterigerina species in younger geological stages. This new genus, Reinholdella (genotype Asterigerina dreheri, collection Geologische Stichting Haarlem nr. F. 410, original of ten Dam and Reinhold’s figure 1, 1941 [1942]), is characterized by an umbilical and interiomarginal aperture and an inner partition in the chambers as in Lamarckina. This new genus is distinguished from Asterigerina by the shape of the aperture and the situation of the inner partition, from Lamarckina by the lack of an umbilicus and the occurrence of an interiomarginal part of the aperture, from Epistomina by the lack of a lateral aperture. Reinholdella closely approaches an ideal type of the primitive Ceratobulimininae and possibly it is an ancestral genus of Lamarckina, Ceratobulimina and Asterigerina. This genus shows the relations between Lamarckina and Asterigerina and is valuable as a demonstration of the taxonomic position of Asterigerina.
