Original Description

Test large, high trochospire, formed by about three whorls; peripheral margin circular, lobulate; last whorl formed by six to seven chambers, coiled in a lower plane; chambers increasing gradually in size as added; last two or three chambers flattened laterally; early chambers globular on both spiral and umbilical sides; primary aperture extra-umbilical; umbilical area subcircular.

Etymology:
This species derives its name from planatus-a-um (Latin) =flattened, which refers to its last whorl of chambers.

Extra details from original publication
Variation of the species. Favusella planata n. sp. is rare in the material studied. Only about 25 specimens were observed, and all of them show the last two or three chambers laterally compressed.

Remarks. Favusella planata n. sp. is a very distinctive species which can easily be distinguished from other members of the genus by its last whorl of chambers being coiled in a lower plane and by its last two or three chambers being laterally compressed.

Range. Upper Ticinella breggiensis Zone (upper Albian) to upper Thalmanninella ticinensis Zone (upper Albian).
