Type specimens: Plate I, figures 7-9; plate 2, figures 15- 17; : Paratypes are deposited in both the USNM and the Pessagno Collection, University of California, Davis, California.
Type sample (& lithostrat): Upper shale member of the Juana Diaz formation, close to its contact with the Ponce formation.
Type age (chronostrat): Globorotalia opima opima assemblage zone.
Type locality: Puerto Rico; OP 2703: Kilometer post K256H2 on Route 132 between Ponce and Peñuelas Coordinates: 126,600 meters East; 23,050 meters North; Peñuelas Quadrangle.

Original Description

Test  trochospiral;  spiral  side  slightly  convex;  periphery  somewhat  lobulate  and  well rounded.  Wall radial, hyaline,  perforate  with  surface  cancellate.  Cancellate  ornamentation  consisting  of polygonal frames (usually hexagonal or  pentagonal). Oval pores  set deep  within centersofframes  (text-figure 2).  Chambers spherical  initially,becoming laterally compressed  in  last  whorl.   Four  chambers in  last  whorl increasing  rapidly  in  size.  Sutures  of  spiral  side radial to  oblique.  Sutures  on  umbilical side  radial and depressed.  Umbilicus  small  and  deep.  Aperture  a  large,  round  opening; interio-marginal, umbilical,  often with a  rim  (holotype).  Direction   of  coiling  (sinistral  or  dextral) random.

Maximum diameter of holotype: 0.35mm. Maximum diameter of other specimens : 0.44mm.

Remarks: G.ampliapertura cancellata n. subsp.  differs  from  G.  ampliapertura s. s. Bolli  in its  somewhat  more  convex spiral side  and  in  its  markedly cancellate  surface.

Occurrence: In Puerto Rico this species occurs in the upper part of the Juana Diaz formation.
