Globigerina clippertonensis

Original Description

Test free, calcareous, auriculate in contour, com pressed into a low trochoid formation, periphery deeply lobulate, broadly rounded; wall coarsely punctate semihyaline rough in ap pear ance, evolute, involute; about three whorls of globose chambers rapidly increasing in size last formed whorl with five or six chambers in a sig moid organization showing in the edge view; initial chambers small raised on anterior side depressed pos te riorly; sutures deeply depressed for outer whorl less so cen trally, radiate, umbilicus closed, depressed; aperture umbilical in part with margin of last formed chamber forming a prominent, tapering hyaline imperforate, flap-like lip at umbilicus then continuing to narrow end at periphery, edge view showing it forming as a low arch over the smaller initial end of last formed coil. 

Size:
Holotype (fig. 1) 0.498 dia. x 0.272mm; paratype (fig. 2) 0.498 x 0.434 x 0.217mm.

Extra details from original publication
This species differs from Globigerina hexagona Natland, 1938, and Globigerina quinqueloba Natland, 1938, in being more sigmoid in the edge view, less compact and more auriculate than circular in contour. The ventral side is less depressed centrally with the apertural lip extending from umbilical area to periphery more peripheral and prominent.
