Type repository: Depository not given. Neotype, from the upper Pliocene (or lower Quaternary?) of Calabria, Italy, designated and illustrated by Mistretta, 1962, Riv. Ital. Pal. Strat., vol. 68, no. 1, pp. 100-102, p. 101, tf. 1a-c, as, Globigerinoides gomitulus (Seguenza), junior synonym of Globigerinoides elongatus (d'Orbigny); and deposited in the micropaleontology collections of the lnstitute of Geology and Paleontology, University of Palermo, Sicily, Italy, no. MP 235.] NB According to Latas et al. (2023) Seguenza's material was destroyed in the Messina earthquake of 1880, and the neotype of Mistretaa is missing from the repository in Palermo.

Original Description

Questa specie come bene rappresentano le figure è distinta per avere le logge compresse non globose, le suture non molto profondate e disposte ortogonalmente, in modo che questi caratteri la distinguono bene dalle altre.
