Type sample (& lithostrat): Jusa formation, neritic facies. Other figured specimens (tf. 94, part ) from the Upper Eocene, San Mateo formation, neritic facies, in sediments overlying light-colored tuffaceous shales. Occurs also in the Upper Eocene Seca and Zapallo formations, in the neritic, reefal, and radiolarian facies.

Type locality: Holotype (tf. 93) and some figured specimens (tf. 94, part) from between the two main tributaries of the Rio Jusá, 14-15 km. east-southeast of Colonche, 13.5 km. north and 75 km. west from the Plaza del Centenario monument in Guayaquil, Guayas Province, southwestern Ecuador. Other figured specimens (tf. 94, part) from subsurface cores from a well drilled near Manta, Manabí Province, west-central Ecuador. Found also at two other localities in Guayas Province; at one other locality in Manabí Province; and at one locality in Esmeraldas Province, north western Ecuador. Generally abundant.

Original Description

Usually four chambers in the last-formed whorl, the rate of increase in chamber size accelerating with growth, the average length-ratio of successive chambers being 1.1:1, whereas between the last two and the previous two of the final coil it is 1.3:1. The last two chambers are very much inflated toward the ventral side. There is a small umbilical area on the ventral side, overhung by the large aperture. The aperture is very wide and always bordered by a distinct rim; it is always in the umbilical area and not near the margin. The pore index is 4(5)-2, X 500 (an average of four or five pores per square centimeter, with an average diameter of 2 mm., at a magnification of 500X). The surface of the test shows conspicuous pits in which the pores are situated, but there is no real reticular ornamentation, especially in the last - formed chambers. "

Test of medium size, greater diameter 0.30-0.48 mm., lesser diameter 0.27- 0.40 mm., thickness 0.24- 0.35 mm.
