Original Description

Test small and elongate, with four chambers in each of the three whorls. Spiral suture of the final whorl depressed, the inner whorls slightly protruding. Ventrally, the final chamber is perpendicular to three spherical cham- bers. Test low conical, dorsally flattened, periphery lobate. Test consists of three whorls. Ventrally, the initial chamber is very small, barely discernible, surrounded by four small spherical chambers; in the second and third whorls there are also four spherical and semi-spherical chambers in each. Ventrally, there are only four spherical chambers, of which the final one is the largest, perpendicular to the three remaining, radially arranged chambers. Spiral suture depressed, particularly strongly in the final whorl; because of this, there is a strong depression between the weakly protruding two inner whorls and the moderately projecting outer whorl. Aperture slitlike, in the final chamber, opening into the umbilicus. Wall calcareous, punctate. [translation from Ellis & Messina catalog]

Size:
Diameter 0.24 mm.; thickness 0.14 mm.

Extra details from original publication
Comparison.  Forms are often found which have a supplementary chamber in the form of a tubercle, situated either in the umbilical area or slightly removed. Dorsally, the early whorls of some specimens are deeply depressed. Other specimens were found which are close to Globigerina bulloides d'Orbigny, from the Recent, but the new species differs in the larger number of chambers and in the considerable depression of the ventral side.

Editors' Notes
The name appears as G. tumbili in the Ellis & Messina catalog and in most databases (e.g World Register of Marine Species), however, it appears G. tumbeli in the Oligocene and Eocene Atlases. It would be useful to check the original publication. [editor's comment - JRY 2018]
