Original Description

Test free, a low trochospire with 12- 14 spherical to subspherical chambers arranged in 3-4 whorls. Four chambers in final whorl. Sutures radial and depressed on both umbilical and spiral sides. Umbilicus small. Primary aperture nearly circular with distinct rimlike margin. One small supplementary aperture present at suture junction between ultimate and penultimate chambers.

Size:
Maximum diameter 0.45 mm.

Extra details from original publication
Remarks: Globigerinoides parawoodi is similar to Globigerina woodi in all respects except the development of a small supplementary aperture. This species evolves from Globigerina woodi in the upper half of foraminiferal Zone N4 near the first appearance of Globoquadrina dehiscens, Globorotalia zealandica, and G. zealandica incognita. Soon after the evolution of Golbigerinoides parawoodi some members of this population evolve into G. subquadratus by reduction of 1 chamber in the final whorl. A further development toward G. altiaperturus is apparent in the upper third of Zone N4. Later in the Early Miocene (Zones N5- N6?) G. parawoodi appears to evolve into G. bollii by a reduced, heavily encrusted and more compact test size. Globigerinoides parawoodi differs from G. altiaperturus by its small single supplementary aperture, generally smaller primary aperture. and smaller test size.

Stratigraphic range: Foraminiferal Zone N4 (Gioboquadrina dehiscens FA to Zones N5-N6 and possibly Zone N7).
