Foram. Res., vol. 2, no. 3, pp. 120, 121 , 131, 132; p. 117, tfs. 72-76) as Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta (Keijzer); remounted on a separate slide and Geological Institute, University of Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands.]
Current identification:
Original Description "Test spherical, distinctly perforate, chambers spirally arranged, very rapidly increasing in size as added and greatly overlapping. The last chamber bears three almost circular apertures, situated along the inner margin of the last chamber and separated from each other by about 90 arc degrees. Sutures only slightly depressed and chambers hardly, if at all, inflated. In well-preserved faunae, the species can easily be recognized by its very large ultimate chamber and the three conspicuous circular apertures. Size: Diameter ranging between 0.37 and 0.55 mm. Extra details from original publication "The species differs from Globigerinoides mexicanus (Cushman) [Globigerina mexicana, 1925] by its much larger last chamber, less chambers (3) in the last whorl, and larger apertures. G. conglobatus (Brady) (Brady, 1884, Challenger Exped. 1873-76, p. 603, pl. 80, figs. 1-5; pl. 82, fig. 5 [as Globigerina conglobata]) has much more constricted sutures which typically intersect at right angles and a relatively smaller terminal chamber. Moreover the apertures of that species are situated more inside the deeply incised sutural depressions. In the same respects it differs from G. conglobatus (Brady) var., described above [Keijzer, op. cit., p. 206]. The characters of G.? orbiformis (Cole) [Globigerina orbiformis, 1927] cannot be made out with sufficient accuracy to allow comparison, but the general shape is decidedly different. G. sp. (Nuttall) (1930, Jour. Pal., vol. 4, p. 290, pl. 24, figs. 12-15 [as Globigerina sp.]) has much more inflated chambers." Editors' Notes Orthography - published as semi-involutus but this is automatcally corrected to semiinvolutus under ICZN rules
