Original Description

Globigerinacea in which the tests are consistently trochospirally coiled and in which the primary aperture may be either interiomarginal, intraumbilical or interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, but which may also show a combination of both positions during ontogeny. The primary aperture bears a portical structure which is additional to the primary wall of the chamber which supports it. True bullae (see p. 468 for redefinition of term) occur in two genera but are not developed in other genera included in the new family. Sutural supplementary apertures within the walls of the chambers of the primary test do not occur and no carinae, muricocarinae or muricae are developed on the walls of the tests. The walls of the test are normally spinose and the wall surface structure is variably cancellate with mural-pores opening into pore-pits. The structure of the walls of the primary tests and the bullae consists of layers of microgranules whose "c"-optical axes are in preferred orientation normal to the test surface. The chamber wall layers do not pass contiguously from one chamber to another and, therefore, each chamber is built separately and independently. Genera of the new family are confined to Palaeogene, Neogene and Anthropogene faunas of the Cainozoic Era but do not occur either in the Palaeocene Epoch of the early Cainozoic or within the Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era.

Extra details from original publication
Remarks: The new family is erected to unitise four genera, viz. Dentoglobigerina n.gen., Globigerinita Bronnimann, 1951, emend Blow and Banner, 1962 (but see discussion below and on p. 751), Globoquadrina, Finlay, 1947, emended and Globorotaloides Bolli, 1957.

..... ., it seems likely that the genus Neogloboquadrina Bandy, Frerichs and Vincent, 1967, should also be placed in this new family
