Original Description

Diagnosis; Distinguished from similar species by its small, high arched aperture which extends from the periphery halfway to the umbilicus. Apertural flap small, distinct.

Description: Test small (0.12-0.20 mm), smooth, 4 to 4¼ chambers in the final whorl, chambers longer tangentially than radially. Dorsal surface, a low convex dome, central details obscured by overgrowth. Intercameral sutures of the final whorl broadly and shallowly depressed, the actual chamber contact well marked; quite markedly recurved distally.

Periphery lobulate; angled but not keeled. Ventral surface also a low dome. Intercameral sutures straight, radial, broadly and shallowly depressed, chamber contact distinct. Surface of first two chambers of final whorl finely pustulose, whether naturally or by overgrowth is not clear. Umbilicus shallow, broadly depressed. Aperture completely extraumbilical, a small, high arch beginning ½ to ⅔ of distance to the periphery and extending to or slightly over the periphery; furnished with a small but obvious apertural flap which is most strongly developed at the midpoint of the aperture.

Wall thin, extremely finely perforate.

Size:
small (0.12-0.20 mm),

Etymology:
In honor of Dr. W.H. Akers, a pioneer worker in the field of planktonic foraminifera.

Remarks: See under G. (T.) bauerensis n. sp.

Editors' Notes
This speices was a junior homonym as noted by Quilty (1978): "In a 1976 paper (Quilty, 1976) I proposed the name Globorotalia (Turborotalia) akersi for a species of Middle Miocene planktonic foraminifera. Dr. T. Saito pointed out (personal communication) that this is a junior homonym of G. akersi Snyder. 1975, and as such must be renamed. I hereby propose to rename the species Globorotalia (Turborotalia) galapagosensis in reference to its occurrence near the Galapagos Rise and Galapagos Islands in the East Pacific."

This species is accepted under the name Globorotalia galapagosensis Quilty, 1978 (Primary junior homonym of Globorotalia akersi Snyder, 1975), which exists in your catalogue of original descriptions.

homonyms - always pain in the proverbial. I had got this one worked out, but not very clearly signposted, hopefully it is clearer now. My basic format though is to reproduce the type description under the name it was published under, with a separate page for the new name.
