Original Description

Test small or medium in size compared with other representatives of Globorotalia; coiled in a low trochospire; biconvex, the umbilical side considerably more inflated than the dorsal one, the latter being sometimes even flat; peripheral outline very lobulate; periphery rather sharply angled, without keel; chambers angular-rhomboid composed of 2.5 whorls in the adult, with 4-5 (rarely up to 5.5) chambers in the peripheral whorls; number of chambers in adult ranging from 13 to 16 in the entire test; sutures very distinct in last whorl, not so in the previous one, simple (not limbate), depressed, strongly curved on the spiral side and very slightly curved and deeply d epressed on the umbilical side ; aperture arched, interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, with a narrow rim or sometimes without it; wall smooth, relatively thin, finely perforate, slightly pustulate on the preapertural base, dorsal side without any ornamentation; coiling direction almost exclusively (97%) dextral.

Size:
Larger diameter 0.42-0.85 mm. (usually 0.55-0.65 mm.). Height 0.2-0.38 mm. Holotype (fig. 1a, b): Larger diameter 0.68 mm., height 0.34 mm. Figured paratypes, larger diameters, in mm.: Fig. 2, 0.60; 3, 0.60; 4,0.61; 5, 0.60; 6, 0.61; 7, 0.59; 10, 0.70; 11, 0.70.

Diagnosis and comparison. - The most important morphological features of this foraminifer are its lobulate outline, periphery without a keel, relatively thin walls which are smooth with the exception of a rather small preapertural area on the ventral side. This side is considerably more convex than the dorsal side.
