Original Description
calcareous, thin, smooth, finely perforate. Chambers ovate, compressed, 14 arranged in just under 3 whorls with 5 in the first and second 4 in the final whorl. Sutures on the spiral side, curved, depressed; on the umbilical side, depressed, radial. Umbilicus shallow. Aperture, small but distinct high arch, extraumbilical.

G. insolita is rare but quite distinctive in the samples from the Port Elizabeth section.
The specific name is derived from the Latin insolita meaning "uncommon""."
