Globorotalia menardii jamesbayensis

Taxonomic rank: sub-species
Type specimens: holotype (fig. 6), AHF 2603.
Type age (chronostrat): Recent.
Type locality: In 15 fms. on Velero Sta tion 409, 0°12'S, 90°52'W, James Bay, James (Santiago) Island; also in 112 fms. on Station 412, north of Duncan (Pinzón) Island, and in 60 fms. on Station 406 off Charles (Floreana) Is land; Galápagos; also in 15-55 fms. on other stations off Isla Clarion and Isla Partida, Mexico.

Original Description

Test comparatively small auriculate biconvex, trochospiral, carinate gently lobed; wall semihyaline prominently perforate smooth; dorsal side, evolute strongly convex, showing about three whorls of chambers with the last formed one smaller than preceding one; sutures dorsally curved hyaline, broad raised to depressed continuous with keel; ventral side involute sutures radiate to slightly curved, depressed; interiomarginal extraumbilical umbilical aperture presenting an arch at its peripheral end fol lowed by a rather deep flange be tween arch and closed umbilicus; area anterior to and posterior to aperture slightly nodulous.

Holotype (fig. 6).475 x.46 x.19mm.

Extra details from original publication
This variant is of interest from the standpoint of the possibility of being an inherited hereditary complex of characters. It differs from the typical Globorotalia menardii (d’Orbigny)  in presenting a low, angular final chamber and only four chambers in last formed whorl.
