Original Description Test free, biconvex, low-trochospirally coiled; equatorial periphery slightly lobate, axial periphery angular, without keel. Wall calcareous, perforate, surface coarse. Chambers angular, 11-12, arranged in about two whorls, the last whorl with 6-7 chambers increasing fairly rapidly in size. Sutures on the spiral side tangential, curved, slightly depressed, limbate; sutures on the umbilical side radial, straight, slightly depressed. Umbilicus very small, deep. Aperture a distinct slit at the base of the last chamber, extraumbilical, covered with a thin apertural lip. Size: Dimensions of holotype: Largest diameter 0.33 mm Extra details from original publication Remarks: In one of the Eocene samples of the Buntmergel serie near Salzburg which was previously described (Gohrbandt, 1963a, p. 33) another new species 'of Globorotalia occurs. It is distinguished by its angular periphery from any other small coarse-walled Lower Eocene Globorotalia. A general resemblance exists between this species and the Upper Paleocene Globorotalia pusilla laevigata which has more strongly curved sutures on both sides and less chambers per whorl. Immature specimens of Globorotalia salisburgensis (see figures 31-33) are close to Globorotalia broedermanni but can be distinguished by the more rapidly increasing chambers on the spiral side and by the angular, limbate periphery of the younger chambers.
Stratigraphic range: Thus far, Globorotalia salisburgensis was found only in Zone F of the Helvetikum (Gohrbandt, 1963a, p. 33), of basal Lower Eocene age. Editors' Notes Problematica - Indeterminate morozovellid, similar to some Paleocene species, so possibly reworked. [Huber et al. 2006, p. 507]
