Original Description Description: This species has a very asymmetri- cal profile, with a convex to very convex spiral side and a flat to slightly convex umbilical side; the one or two of the last chambers have a single keel while the rest of the test has two parallel, closely-spaced keels, the keel on the umbilical side being thinner than on the spiral side. On the spiral side, the outline is subcircular to lobate in the final part; the last whorl has 6-7 chambers increasing slowly in size as added; the first part of the last whorl has crescent-shaped chambers very elongated in the direction of coiling and raised, beaded and very curved sutures joining the spiral suture at a very acute angle; the last part of the last whorl shows 2-4 petaloid chambers and slightly curved to straight sutures that are less raised and beaded and may be depressed. On the first part of the umbilical side, the adumbilical ridge, sutural ridge, and peripheral keel form a horse-shoe pattern of area-type but with more depressed sutural sutures. On the last part of the umbilical side, the sutures are depressed, the adumbilical and sutural ridges are weak or absent. Primary aperture is umbilical. Umbilical system is composed of tegilla. Etymology: from Aturus (for Adour River, Landes, France) after which was established the name of the historical Aturian stage by E. Munier Chalmas and A. de Lapparent, 1893. Extra details from original publication Remarks: Globotruncana aturica differs from G. area by its more asymmetrical profile, having a higher spiral side and a flat or slightly convex umbilical side; by the presence of a single keel on the last one or two chambers; by more elongate, crescent-shaped chambers in the first part of the last whorl on the spiral side, and by more petaloid chambers in the last part. In the last part of the test on the umbilical side, the adumbilical and sutural ridges are always weak or absent.
Distribution at Tercis: upper upper Campanian - upper Maastrichtian (from level P 76.0 to level P 152.4 and from level B -37.0-P 231 to level B -16.5-P 252).
