Original Description

these tests are definitely Globotruncana-like, and, in agreement with Reichel (1949), seem to show already evolved "lapparenti" characteristics (thick, sigmoidal and raised sutures on umbilical side). Consequently, and in order to avoid confusion, Gandolfi's form needs to be distinguished from Thalmann's and to have its own specific name as proposed here. Its relationship to the single-keeled Globotruncana sigali Reichel should be closely investigated inasmuch as Reichel's (1949, text fig. 6) figure of the latter species suggests a double keel in the earliest chambers

Etymology:
The species is named after Coldrerio, a small town near the Scabriana Quarry in Canton Ticino, Switzerland.

Editors' Notes
replacement name proposed for Globotruncana renzi Gandolfi 1942, on the grounds that it was a homonym of Globotruncana renzi Thalmann. However, as argued in the Ellis & Messina catalog the species Globotruncana renzi Thalmann was not validly published until 1945 and so is the junior homonym. Hence the name G. coldreriensis is usually regrded as superfluous.

Extended discussion from Falzoni et al. 2016 (p.85)
"Marginotruncana coldreriensis is usually regarded as a junior synonym of Marginotruncana renzi Gandolfi (1942). However, both renzi and coldreriensis species concepts have been differently interpreted by authors, because of their very chaotic taxonomic history (see also Pessagno, 1967): Gandolfi (1942) erected the species renzi referring to the thin-section of a biconvex specimen figured by Renz (1936) (Robaszynski et al., 1979) and illustrated the drawing of two other specimens possessing different morphological features (one umbilico-convex and the other one biconvex), but he did not select the holotype. The same year, Thalmann (1942) described a species that he also named renzi. Believing that Thalmann's use of the name renzi had priority, Gandolfi (1957) introduced the name coldreriensis to identify the morphotypes he named renzi and selected the biconvex specimen figured in 1942 as the holotype of coldreriensis (here re-illustrated in Fig. 11, 5AeC). Later, it became clear that Thalmann's species was not named according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature; therefore the species renzi Gandolfi (1942) was retained as being valid and the species coldreriensis Gandolfi (1957) regarded as its junior synonym in the Ellis and Messina catalogue. Pessagno (1967) disagreed with this synonymy and selected the umbilico-convex specimen illustrated by Gandolfi as the lectotype of M. renzi (here re-illustrated in Fig. 11, 4AeC). Subsequent re-examination of Gandolfi's type material revealed that the original slide that was supposed to contain the holotype of M. coldreriensis (Fig. 11, 5A-C) was empty (B.T. Huber, personal communication, 2015), so that uncertainties remain on its species concept. Nevertheless, we believe that M. coldreriensis (see drawing in Fig. 11, 5AeC) and M. renzi (see lectotype in Fig. 11, 4A-C) might represent different species and, pending further studies, we named specimens resembling the drawing of the holotype of M. coldreriensis as Marginotruncana cf. coldreriensis (Fig. 11, 3A-C)."

Globotruncana coldreriensis Gandolfi, 1957 is an unnecessary new name for G. renzi Gandolfi, 1942. Therefore M. colderiensis is an absolute junior synonym of M. renzi (both are in Mikrotax).

they look the same as well! Anyway one for Brian!
