Original Description

Gorbachikella anteroapertura has an almost flat spiral side. It consists of two or more whorls, with four chambers in each whorl. The fact that the holotype is hollow proves it cannot be an internal mould. G. anterapertura has an intraumbilical aperture as in G. kugleri but in this species it tends to face anteriorly, almost reaching the periphery of the previous whorl. This aperture tends to be, in some cases (see PI. 5, fig. 5a), almost similar to a Praehedbergella type of aperture, except that it is still intraumbilical.

Extra details from original publication
We believe that this species could be the immediate ancestor of Praehedbergella. Bellier and Chitta (1981) recorded the occurrence of a similar species under the name of Caucasella hoterivica from the Barremian to the "middle Aptian" of Tunisia. In this study, C. anteroapertura ranges from the Late Hauterivian, Barremian and into the Early Aptian. We could not find any specimens resembling the species described by Salaj as "Caucasella hoterivica" from the Early Hauterivian of Tunisia and which, according to Banner and Desai (1988, pl 54) is probably the oldest known species of Praehedbergella. "C. handousi" has a dorsal side similar to G. anteroapertura but it is more flattened, the peripheral view is more compressed and the aperture on the ventral side reaches the periphery of the previous whorl i.e. it is clearly intraextraumhilical and Salaj's species is a Praehedbergella.
