Extra details from original publication
'This species closely resembles Gümbelina cubensis Palmer from the Oligocene of Cuba and adjacent areas, but differs in its slenderer test, slightly less inflated chambers , and its high aperture, elongated in the plane of the test. This genus has not previously been known from sediments younger than Oligocene. This form is questionably placed in this genus because of the type of aperture, which resembles that characteristic of Bolivina d ' Orbigny, 1839, although it is not unknown in the genus Gümbelina Egger , 1900.

This species may have its origin in fossil, rather than Recent , sediments. The unique faunal composition ofthe core Bikini 1176 suggests that a submarine outcrop of Tertiary sediments higher on the atoll slope might have shed debris down the slope of the atoll.
