Citation: Parathalmanninella Lipson-Benitah 2008
taxonomic rank: Genus
Type species: Rotalipora praebalernaensis Sigal, 1969,

Original Description

Test trochospiral biconvex, peripheral margin lobulate, partially or fully keeled. Five to seven chambers in the last whorl. Chambers petaloid on the spiral side, triangular to sub-triangular on the umbilical side. Sutures slightly curved, raised on the spiral side at least between the first chambers, radial and depressed on the umbilical side except sometimes for the first sutures. A small- to moderate-sized umbilicus is present. Periumbilical ornamentation absent in the early forms, then consisting of pustules or ridges. Main aperture umbilical to extra-umbilical, provided with a lip or, rarely, with a porticus. Supplementary apertures umbilical, occasionally becoming sutural in the last chambers.

Etymology:
The prefix para- (= beside in Greek) is added to the generic name Thalmanninella.

Extra details from original publication
Species included. Parathalmanninella praebalernaensis (Sigal), P. balernaensis (Gandolfi), P. appenninica (Renz), P. micheli (Sacal and Debourle) and P. gandolfii (Luterbacher and Premoli Silva).

Remarks. Parathalmanninella differs from Ticinella in having a keel and sutural ornamentation. It differs from Pseudothalmanninella in having triangular chambers on the umbilical side and a sutural position for the last supplementary apertures. It differs from Thalmanninella in having petaloid chambers on the spiral side and radial, depressed sutures on the umbilical side. It differs from both in having a smaller umbilicus. Rotalipora differs from Parathalmanninella in having all the supplementary apertures in a sutural position and lingulae (perforate, adumbilical extensions of the chambers).
