Editors' Notes
Ehrenberg (1854) illustrated from thin secions two very similar species Phanerostomum asperum and Rotalia aspera. Both species have been included by various workers in the synonymy of the Cretaceous species Globigerinelloides asper (Ehrenberg) but Pessagno 1967 argued that only P. asperum was well enough documented to determine what species it repesented and so he regarded Rotalia aspera as a name of uncertain meaning.
