Original Description Test large, low-trochoid biconvex, with 2 whorls, oval, with strongly lobate periphery, in the last whorl 5 globular chambers rapidly increasing in size. From the spiral side chambers convex, early whorl does not rise above chambers of the last whorl. Sutures straight, radial, strongly depressed. Chambers are evenly covered with coarse spines, in places merging into costellae; spines and costellae do not have a distinct radial or longitudinal orientation. From the umbilical side, chambers globular, separated by straight radial strongly depressed sutures. Surface of chambers evenly covered with coarse medium-sized spines without distinct regular meridional or longitudinal orientation. Periphery broadly rounded, lacking keel, evenly spinose, perforate; umbilical area wide, occupying half the diameter of the test. Aperture umbilical, protected by a system of large tegilla. Chamber surface except for spines and costellae is evenly covered with large cylindrical pores on chambers of the early whorl and with small pores on chambers of the last whorl; character of porosity of the latter is quite similar on the spiral and umbilical sides; tegilla are also covered with fine scarce pores. Size: holotype no. 4898/6: large diameter, 0.35; minor diameter, 0.23; thickness, 0.13 at the beginning of the last whorl and 0.18 at the last chamber.
Etymology: Name is derived from Lat. pseudo – false, rugosa – spinose. Extra details from original publication Comparison. The species is morphologically similar to Rugoglobigerina rugosa (Plummer) differing in the absence of distinct radial or longitudinal orientation of spines and costellae on the test surface. The new species differs from other members of Rugoglobigerina in that its test surface is covered with unoriented coarse spines. It is not improbable that the species belongs to a new genus, or that it should be considered within the genus Helvetiella Longoria et Gamper, 1984, emend., on refinement of the diagnosis of the latter. The species differs from the taxa of Fingerina Georgescu, 2010 primarily in the aperture morphology; in Fingerina the aperture is protected by portici, whereas in R. pseudorugosa it has distinct tegilla, which is characteristic of the typical Rugoglobigerina.
Material. Several tests of excellent preservation.
Distribution and age. Upper Campanian, Moni Formation, southern Cyprus.
