Supported by molecular genetic data (Morard et al., 2019b), we consider it likely that Dentigloborotalia represents a lineage of foraminifera that invaded the plankton from an independent benthic ancestor and the genus must be retained until the phylogenetic position of the species relative to its benthic ancestors is resolved. [Brummer & Kucera 2022]
