Description


Diagnostic characters:
Lenticular, planoconvex, low trochospiral, prominent keel and densely perforate surface

Aperture: Interiomarginal umbilical-extraumbilical low-arched slit with thin lip [Aze 2011, based on Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]


Morphology:
Test very low trochospiral, spiral side flat, umbilical side strongly convex, equa- torial periphery almost circular, axial periphery planoconvex with a pronounced keel; 6 to 7 chambers in the final whorl; spiral sutures curved, limbate, merging into keel, on umbilical side sinuous to radial, depressed; surface smooth, densely perforate; umbilicus small, fairly deep; aperture interiomarginal, extraumbilical-umbilical, a fairly low-arched slit with a thin lip. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology


Geographic distribution
Endemic to the tropical Atlantic; rare in the eastern equatorial Pacific as a result of migration through the Gulf of Panama (Stainforth et aI., 1975). [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983] Low latitudes [Aze et al. 2011, based on Kennett & Srinivasan (1983)]

Phylogenetic relations
Gr. (Menardella) miocenica is distinguished from other species of Menardella by its distinctly planoconvex test and circular outline. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Globorotalia pseudomiocenica - at confidence level 4 (out of 5). Data source: Stewart 2003 fig. 6.10; Aze et al. 2011, appendix 5 (but differs from Kennett & Srinivasan 1983, fig. 14).
