Parent taxon (tumida lineage): G. lenguaensis - merotumida - tumida - flexuosa lineage
This taxon: Like G. merotumida but larger, slightly less convex umbilical side, more ovate equatorial profile, and final chamber is higher than wide.

Description


Morphology:
Test lenticular trochospire, biconvex, equatorial periphery ovate, slightly lob- ulate; axial periphery acute with a distinct keel; generally 6 chambers in the final whorl, increasing regularly in size as added, final chamber noticeably projecting; sutures on spiral side limbate , slightly raised, oblique to curved, merging into keel; on umbilical side radial, depressed; surface smooth, densely perforate, pustulate on umbillcal shoulders; umbilicus narrow, aperture a low arch, bordered by a lip, interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Phylogenetic relations

Gr. (Gr.) plesiotumida is distinguished from Gr. (Gr.) tumida tumida by its smaller size and less tumid test. The evolutionary appearance of Gr. (Gr.) plesiotumida defines the base of Zone N17. This taxon, in turn, evolved into Gr. (Gr.) tumida tumida near the Zone N17-N18 boundary by developing a larger and more tumid test. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]
