Globorotalia viola

Classification: pf_cenozoic -> Globorotaliidae -> Globorotalia -> truncatulinoides lineage -> Globorotalia viola
Sister taxa: G. cavernula, G. truncatulinoides, G. tosaensis, G. tenuitheca ⟩⟨ G. hessi, G. ronda, G. crassaformis, G. viola ⟩⟨ G. crassaconica, G. crassula

Taxonomy

Citation: Globorotalia viola Blow, 1969
taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Globorotalia (Globorotalia) crassula viola Blow, 1969
Synonyms:
Taxonomic discussion: Considered by Kennett & Srinivasan (1983) as  "no more than phenotypic variants or subspecies of" G. crassula, but regarded as a discrete species by Aze et al. 2011. Considered a synonym of G. crassula by Lam & Leckie 2020. Brummer & Kucera (2022) suggest that occasional modern records of the species refer to G. crassaformis.

Catalog entries: Globorotalia (Globorotalia) crassula viola

Type images:

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (truncatulinoides lineage): G. crasula - crassaformis - tosaensis - truncatulinoides lineage, predominantly conicotruncate
This taxon: Like G. crassaformis but has keel and more angular chambers

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
