Taxonomy

Citation: Muricohedbergella Huber & Leckie 2011
Rank: Genus
Type species: Anomalina lorneiana d'Orbigny var. trochoidea Gandolfi, 1942.
Synonyms: The Paleocene species included in this genus have normally been placed in Hedbergella Brönnimann & Brown 1958 but following revision of Cretaceous hedbergellids they are now placed in Muricohedbergella Huber & Leckie 2011.
Taxonomic discussion: Late Cretaceous species of Hedbergella are generally typified by more numerous chambers in the ultimate whorl and by more pustulose chambers. The late Maastrichtian species Hedbergella holmdelensis and H. monmouthensis, however, show a reduced number of chambers in the ultimate whorl and less pustulose chambers. [Olsson et al. 1999]

Catalog entries: Hedbergella

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (Globanomalinidae): Hedbergellids - trochospiral, mostly low trochospiral. Apertures of earlier formed chambers remain visible around the umbilicus.
This taxon: Low to very low trochospiral. Chambers globular, 5-8 in final whorl. Umbilicus small & deep.
Aperture low to high arch, with narrow lip.
Normal perforate wall, smooth to heavily pustulose, nonspinose.

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
