Citation: Tenuitellita Li 1987
Rank: Genus
Type species: Globigerinita iota Parker, 1962
Taxonomic discussion: Molecular phylogenetic analysis of the living species usually assigned to Tenuitella "shows that they belong to a single clade derived relatively recently from Globigerinita (Morard et al., 2019), and since the continuity of the modern species with the last surviving Miocene Tenuitella has not been established (Kennett and Srinivasan, 1983; Li, 1987), it is likely that the extant clade is unrelated and requires a different name. The existing and validly described Tenuitellita represents the obvious choice for a name based on one of the extant species, and we here also assign T. fleisheri and T. parkerae to this genus." [Brummer & Kucera 2022}

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
