Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (truncatulinoides lineage): G. crasula - crassaformis - tosaensis - truncatulinoides lineage, predominantly conicotruncate
This taxon: Like G. crassaformis but more rounded peripheral margin and relatively thickened test

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Geographic distribution

Low to middle latitudes [Aze et al. 2011, based on Kennett & Srinivasan (1983)]

[SCOR WG138]

Isotope paleobiology
Aze et al. 2011 ecogroup 4 - Open ocean sub-thermocline. Based on comparison with other species of the genus

Most likely ancestor: Globorotalia crassaformis - at confidence level 2 (out of 5). Data source: Kennett & Srinivasan 1983 ; Stewart 2003 fig. 6.10; Aze et al. 2011, appendix 5 (NB Aze et al 2011 derived G. ronda from G. oceanica but G. oceanica is treated here as a variant of G. crassaformis).
Likely descendants: Globorotalia hessi; Globorotalia tenuitheca; plot with descendants

Biostratigraphic distribution

Geological Range:
Last occurrence (top): at top of PT1a subzone (100% up, 0.6Ma, in Ionian stage). Data source: Aze et al. 2011
First occurrence (base): within PL2 zone (3.85-4.37Ma, base in Zanclean stage). Data source: Aze et al. 2011
