Taxonomy
resemble Guembelina globulosa (Ehrenberg) [Textularia globulosa, 1840], but may be distinguished by the roughened early portion of the test. Guembelina glabrans Cushman has a roughened early portion, but the periphery of the early chambers has a slight keel. [copied from Chronos database]
Original description: Diagnosis: Test 1½ to 2 times as long as broad, early portion rapidly broadening to maximum width, surface roughened. Chambers globular, sutures depressed, horizontal. Wall of test perforate, radiate in structure, aperture large.
Description: Test 1½ to 2 times as long as broad, early portion usually broadening rapidly to maximum breadth, sides of test then almost parallel, or sometimes narrowing over last one or two pairs of chambers; some specimens taper throughout. Median axis of the test usually straight, sometimes slightly curved. Central part of test depressed, periphery lobate. Chambers globular, inflated, sutures narrow, distinct, depressed, horizontal or only slightly inclined. Wall of test calcareous, finely perforate, radiate in structure; surface of test roughened on early chambers giving a pimpled appearance, last one or two pairs of chambers smooth. Aperture a large arched opening at the base of the inner margin of the chamber.
