Original Description

sharp-edged to keeled branch [of the hirsuta lineage]

Extra details from original publication
The turborotaloids are well represented as a prominent lineage from the Paleogene to the Holocene. forming a central stock from which more than five branches arose at vanous times leading to keeled groups referred to Globorotalia (Blow; 1969). Some of these lineages leading from turborotaloids to separate keeled end products are summarized below:
....
5. Globorotalia (T.) scitula - margaritae - praehirsuta - hirsuta series (the last three showing the development of a keel beginning in the Upper Miocene Neogene zone 16 and producing the final end product in the Pleistocene). I propose a new subgenus, Hirsutella, for this sharp-edged to keeled branch, the type species of this new subgenus being designated as Globorotalia (Hirsutella) hirsuta (d'Orbigny).

Editors' Notes
Invalid - junior homonym of the brachipod Hirsutella.
