Original Description

[Translation from the Russian. - Test very small, flattened, considerably broadened at the apertural end. The outline of the test is somewhat reminiscent of an isosceles triangle. Periphery weakly sinuous, nearly smooth. Chambers flattened, quadrangular in outline, and gradually increasing in size in all but the final stages of growth. The height of the chambers is approximately one-half the width. Two final chambers spherical, very large as compared with the remaining chambers, constituting approximately one-third of the test. There are six or seven chambers per row. Septal sutures depressed, straight, and slightly curved in some stages. Median suture sinuous, faint. Aperture not seen. Wall thin, transparent, smooth.

Dimensions of holotype : Length 0.15 mm.; width of the last row 0.12 mm.

Extra details from original publication
Variability. - In addition to typical specimens we have found individuals with smaller final chambers. In some specimens the chambers were less flattened than those of the holotype .

Comparison. - A very close species is Guembelina wilcoxensis Cushman and Ponton from the Wilcox Eocene of Alabama, which is, however, nearly four times as large as our form; furthermore, its wall is covered with papillalike growths. Another similar species is Guembelina cubensis Palmer, from the lower Oligocene of Cuba, which differs in being twice as large as Guembelina pumilia and in having a rugose wall.
