Original Description Globigerinacea in which the tests are consistently trochospirally coiled and with primary apertures that are interiomarginal, essentially intraumbilical or asymmetrically umbilical-extraumbilical (see p. 488 for definition of new descriptive term), but not truly umbilical-extraumbilical. The primary apertures bear portici (see p. 441, for redefinition of term). The primary apertures are consistently placed and do not show any change of position during ontogeny. Sutural supplementary aperture-like openings may be variably developed and bullae may also occur in one genus referable to the family. The wall of the tests are always perforate but pore-pits and associated inter-pore ridges may, or may not, be developed. The walls of the tests are comprised of layers of calcite microgranules whose "c"-optic axes are preferentially orientated normal to the test surface. Genera of the family are confined to the Palaeocene Epoch, Cainozoic Era. Extra details from original publication Remarks: The new family is recognised to contain three genera, viz, Eoglobigerina Morozova, 1959, emended, Globastica n.gen., and Subbotina Brotzen and Pozaryska, 1961, emended, Two of these genera (Eoglobigerina and Subbotina) are considered as lineally related in phylogeny whilst the third genus (Globastica) is considered as collaterally related to Eoglobigerina. Both Eoglobigerina and Globastica are considered to contain taxa which are paedomorphically derived from probable rugoglobigerinid ancestors in the latest Cretaceous. The taxa included in the genera of the new family are considered distinct from those included in the Globigerinidae by the possession of portical structure and from those forms included in the Globorotaliidae by possession of essentially intraumbilical, or asymmetrically umbilical-extraumbilical, primary apertures Editors' Notes Also used as a superfamily by BouDagher-Fadel (2012), who cited it as Superfamily EOGLOBIGERINOIDEA BouDagher-Fadel, 2012. This was incorrect, since superfamilies are part of the family group and so by the principle of co-ordination the correct citation should have been Superfamily EOGLOBIGERINOIDEA Blow 1979.
