Taxonomy

Citation: Antarcticella Loeblich & Tappan 1987
taxonomic rank: genus
Taxonomic discussion: The genus Antarcticella was defined by Loeblich & Tappan (1988) to include microperforate species previously placed in Candeina but without true supplementary apertures along the umbilical and spiral chamber sutures, which is a distinctive feature of Candeina. The aperture on the final chamber of Antarcticella is hidden by bridge-like projections across the umbilicus and the intercameral suture and blunt pustules occur on and between the sutural projections. [Huber et al. 2020]

Catalog entries: Antarcticella

Distinguishing features:
Parent taxon (pf_cenozoic): This is a polyphyletic grouping including all Cenozoic planktonic foraminifera
This taxon: Microperforate, like Candeina but lacking true sutural apertures

NB These concise distinguishing features statements are used in the tables of daughter-taxa to act as quick summaries of the differences between e.g. species of one genus.
They are being edited as the site is developed and comments on them are especially welcome.
