Original Description

Diagnosis. A genus of Guembelitriidae that is triscrial throughout or with chamber proliferation in the adult, with smooth and sparsely perforate wall lacking pore mounds, and simple open aperture without a bordering lip.

Description. Test tiny, elongote, chambers globular and rapidly enlarging as added, arrangement triserial throughout, or with chamber proliferation in the final stage. sutures deeply depressed, margins lobulate: wall calcareous. hyaline, thin and translucent, surface smooth to grainy in appearance at a magnification of 500 x. fine pores sparsely scattered over the surface. and not elevated on pore mounds; aperture a simple rounded and umbilical arch at the base of the final chamber, without a lip.

Etymology:
Patronymic, honoring E. Montanaro Gallitelli, in recognition of her contributions to the study of the Heterohelicacea

Types and occurrence. Figured hypotypes of Figs. 9, 10. 12 (USNM 383470, 383471) from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography 1960 Sahul Shelf Cruise I of the Mallta, core V-17, at 105°5.9'S. 129°12.8'E. at 105 ft (32 m), and hypotype of Fig. 11 (USNM 383472) from core V-43, 12°27.1'S, 125°55.9'E, 239 ft (72.8 m), Timor Sea.
Pleistocene to Holocene; Pacific; lndian Ocean; Gulf of Mexico.

Remarks. Differs from Guembelitria and Chiloguembelitria in the very thin. hyaline, smooth and sparsely perforate wall, in the occasional chamber proliferation, and simple open aperture that has no bordering lip, and differs from the former also in the wall lacking pore mounds. The mid-Cretaceous Guembelitriella also has chamber proliferation, but differs in the finely pustulose surface with pores between the pustules. and in the low arched aperture with bordering lip.
