Original Description "Diagnosis.- Of the species Globigerina baconica characteristic are 4 spherical chambers in the whorl, and a large umbilical aperture.
"Description.- A large test consisting of 2Â_-3 whorls with 10-12 chambers coiled in a low trochospire. In the last whorl are most frequently 3Â_-4 slowly enlarging chambers. Dorsal and ventral sutures are deep. The umbilicus is wide and deep; the aperture is large, semi-arcuate, umbilical, without any lip or rim. The wall is calcareous, perforate - as in Glogigerapsis index (Finlay) [Globigerinoides index, 1939]. Globigerina baconica is an ancestral to Globigerapsis index (Finlay). Maximum size: diameter 0.5-0.72 mm., height 0.28-0.42 mm." Editors' Notes original combination not double checked
