Taxonomic discussion: An SEM of the holotype [see below] confirms that it is microperforate and less trochospiral than in the illustration by Natland (1938). This is consistent with the observations by Parker (1962), who synonymized G. minuta with G. uvula but noted the lower spire in the holotype of G. minuta, referring to specimens on her plate 8, figs. 24–26, which we indeed consider consistent with G. minuta. Despite the overall similarity with G. uvula, the species is genetically distinct and this distinction appears to be associated with moderately high-spired specimens bearing a characteristic highly arched aperture and showing a different ontogenetic trajectory (Brummer, 1988a; Morard et al., 2019b), consistent with the concept of Saito et al. (1981) and Schiebel and Hemleben (2017). [Brummer & Kucera 2022]

Globigerinita minuta and some other species as Tenuitella iota, Berggrenia pumilio, Dentigloborotalia anfracta, Globorotalia cavernula, Globigerinita minuta, and Globorotalia ungulata are expressed as taxonomically obscure species in Yasuhara et al. 2020. Do you have any objections about it?

Hi - Yasuhara et al (2020) say these are "small, rare, and/or taxonomically obscure species", so they remove them from their analysis. It is often sensible to do this for some types of work however that does not mean that the species are not real, just that we know so little about them it is not useful to include them in some kinds of work. On the other hand I am assured that the SCOR working gorp on planktonic foraminifera will publish there synthesis of extant planktic foram taxonomy shortly. They will discuss all these species and I guess may eliminate some. That work is lead by Michal kucera and Geert-Jan Brummer, MK is one of the authors on Yasuhara et al. (2020) so the taxonomy is quite well co-ordinated.
