Original Description

[Translation from the Russian.] Diagnosis: Test rounded, with a slightly flattened dorsal side and a strongly convex ventral side, consisting of two whorls. There are five chambers in the final whorl. The ventral side has a large umbilicus. Aperture typical for the genus. Wall spinose. Description - Test rounded, transitional between Globorotalia and Globigerina. Dorsa side as compared with the ventral slightly flattened. There are two whorls. Umbilicus open, broad. Periphery rounded, sinuous, always lacking a keel. In the final whorl there are five chambers, reminiscent of spheres flattened at the top. The chambers increase very slowly in size within each whorl. Sutures always curved, depressed. Aperture simple, slitlike, extending along the marginal suture from the umbilicus to the periphery. Wall coarsely rugose, covered with acicular spines. The specimen described was found along the Kuban River.
Variability - The present species shows but little variation. Sometimes the number of chambers varies reaching to six or seven, or only four. All other features vary but little except, possibly, the umbilicus, which may be either larger or smaller.

Average dimensions: Greatest diameter 0.55 mm.; smallest diameter 0.35 mm.; thickness 0.20 mm. Below are the measurements (in mm.) of 100 specimens:

Изменчивость. Данный вид очень мало изменчив. Варь­ ирует иногда число камер, доходящее с одной стороны до 6 и 7, а с дру­ гой до 4. Выше приведены результаты измерений 100 особей Globorotalia pentacamerata sp. n. (в мм).

Все остальные признаки варьируют очень мало. Пожалуй, изме­ няется еще немного в ту и другую сторону величина пупка.

Сравнение с близкими видами. Globorotalia pen­tacamerata sp. n. очень похожа, содной сторону, на представителей Globigerina, с другой же—на всех Globorotalia eх gr. crassa (d'Orb.).

Многие раковины, особенно те, у которых четыре камеры в послед­ нем обороте и маленький пупок, очень похожи на Globorotalia crassaformis (Galloway et Wissler).

Ha Globorotalia pentacamerata sp. n. очень похожи особи, описан­ ные Уайтом ([153], р. 194, pi. 27, fig. 16), как Globigerina mckannai White . Судя по изображению, последние имеют такую же грубо­ шероховатую стенку как представители Globorotalia.

Распространение. Globorotalia pentacamerata sp. n. обна­ руживается повсюду на Северном Кавказе в большом числе особей в слоях очень малой мощности (5—10 м) расположенных в нижнем эоцене на границе его со средним. В единичном же числе особей она попадается в слоях среднего эоцена.
