Morphology: Test small, almost planispiral, involute, biumbilicate , equatorial periphery strongly lobulate; axial periphery broadly rounded; chambers initially spherical, later becoming ovate to radially elongate , 5 rapidly enlarging chambers in the final whorl; sutures radial, depressed; surface with regularreticulate pattern of ridges forming circular to subcircular or subhexagonal pore pits (PI. 55, Fig. 1). Aperture basal, nearly equatorial, rather high arch, bordered by a distinct thick lip. [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]

Biogeography and Palaeobiology

Geographic distribution: Warm subtropical [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983] Warm subtropical (Kennett & Srinivasan 1983)

Phylogenetic relations: P. prolixa resembles Clavatorella bermudezi but differs in its somewhat smaller size, its more planispiral rather than trochospiral adult test, and its somewhat more thickened apertural lip. Surface ultrastructural characteristics suggest close affinities between P. prolixa and Cl. bermudezi (Srinivasan and Kennett, 1975). [Kennett & Srinivasan 1983]
