Protentella rohiensis

Type sample (& lithostrat): base of the Globorotalia opima Zone, lower Virna Formation. Occurs immediately above the last occurrence of Globorotalia ampliapertura , in a thin band of strata (5-10 m) which represents the uppermost occurrence of mixed Mediterranean and Paratethyan faunas.
Type age (chronostrat): Oligocene, upper Rupelian-lower Chattian,
Type locality: Fintinele village, near Valea Poienii, Maramures district, Romania.
Type repository: Bucharets; Institut de Geologie si Geofizidi, Bucharest, Romania;

Original Description

Test free, small to medium sized; initial[ly] trochospiral, later planspiral involute, biumbilicate; periphery rounded; peripheral margins strongly lobated; chambers spherical in younger stage, increasing gradual[ly] in size as added, become radial elongate in the adult, 6-7 on the last whorl; sutures distinct, incised, radial; wall calcareous, finely perforated with rare but distinct base spines on the last 2-4 chambers; aperture equatorial, at the base of the apertural face, bordered by a lip

Etymology:
The name is deriving from the Monastery Rohia, in the vicinity of which is located the type section.

Remarks. The species is somewhat close to Protentella nazcaensis (Quilty) [Clavigerinella nazcaensis, Quilty 1976]. Differs [from] this species by less incised sutures in the young stage and shorter and more robust radial chambers and less lobate peripheral outline
