Original Description

Test of medium size, low trochospire; peripheral margin subcircular, lobate; six to seven chambers in the last whorl, increasing gradually in size as added, early chambers petalloid; later chambers crescent-shaped on spiral side; early chambers subtriangular; later chambers crescent-shaped on umbilical side; sutures strongly depressed and straight on both spiral and umbilical sides; primary aperture extraumbilical-spiroumbilical in position; umbilical area wide and shallow.

Etymology:
This species derives its name from the petalloid-shape of the chambers of the last whorl.

Extra details from original publication
Variation of the species. Ticinella petalloidea n. sp. is abundant in the material studied, and more than 90 specimens were analyzed. It shows little morphologic variation. The height of the spire is constant; all the specimens observed have low trochospiral coil. Individuals with seven chambers in the last whorl are rarely observed.

Remarks. Ticinella petalloidea n. sp. differs from T. primulla Luterbacher by its crescent-shaped chambers and by its subcircular instead of elliptical peripheral outline.

Range. Upper Ticinella breggiensis Zone (upper Albian) to lower Thalmanninella evoluta Zone (lower Cenomanian).
