Taxonomy

Citation: Dicarinella marianosi (Douglas, 1969)
Taxonomic rank: species
Basionym: Globotruncana marianosi
Synonyms:
Taxonomic discussion: At low latitudes, the range of M. marianosi is very short, being entirely within in the H. helvetica Zone, as reported by Douglas (1969) from the Californina sections, by Caron (1974) and Gonzalez Donoso & Linarez (1990) from the Tunisian sections, and by Bilotte et al. (1989) from the Pyrenees. At southern mid-high latitudes, in the Exmouth Plateau sections (Petrizzo, 2000) it appears slightly above the LO of F. maslakovae and disappears in the lowermost part of the D. asymetrica Zone. Transfered to Dicarinella by Huber et al. (2017, p178) "because of the absence of raised sigmoidal sutures, which Porthault considered a key feature for inclusion within Marginotruncana"

Original description: "Test free, large, low trochospiral with nearly flat spiral side, umbilicoconvex; equatorial periphery slightly lobate; axial periphery angular, with single keel. Chambers triarcuate and petaloid on spiral side; subrectangular to subtriangular, inflated on umbilical side; increasing rapidly in size, 6-8 in final whorl. Sutures curved, raised, beaded on spiral side; depressed, radial on umbilical side. Wall calcareous, perforate, radial in structure; surface smooth. Umbilicus wide and deep. Aperture interiomarginal, extraumbilical-umbilical, extending onto the margin with apertural flaps extending into the umbilical cavity."

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globotruncana marianosi, Dicarinella elata
