taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Globigerinelloides maridalensis elongatus Verga and Premoli Silva, 2005
Taxonomic discussion: This species shows a moderate morphological variability mainly concerning (a) the number of chambers in the last whorl ranging from 4 to 5, (b) the elongation of the last two/three chambers and, consequently, (c) the shape of the test that can be more or less strongly lobate to stellate. [Verga & Premoli Silva 2005]

Type images:

Original description: Test small to medium, planispiral, semi-involute to evolute, slightly laterally compressed; 2 to 2.5 whorls; 4 to 5 chambers in the outer whorl, increasing in size gradually but rather quickly as added; first chambers globular to subglobular, the last two or exceptionally three radially elongate, posteriorly directed, slightly compressed; equatorial periphery strongly lobate to stellate; sutures straight to slightly curved, radial and depressed; umbilicus rather small and shallow; aperture straddling the periphery as a low arch possibly bordered by a thin lip; relict apertures at time observed. Wall smooth finely perforate.
