Basionym: Globotruncana mariei
Taxonomic discussion: Globotruncana cretacea Cushman, 1938 was the original designation for this species, but Banner and Blow (1960) designated G. mariei as the new name for the original Cushman holotype after they reassigned Globigerina cretacea dOrbigny 1848 (=Archaeoglobigerina cretacea) to Globotruncana. Original description: "This species differs from G. arca in the fewer chambers in the whorl, flatter dorsal side, typically more convex ventral side, more definitely oblique sides to the chambers on the ventral side, and differently shaped chambers."
