Taxonomy

Citation: Hedbergella kuhryi Longoria 1974
taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Hedbergella kuhryi
Taxonomic discussion: This species displays a moderate morphological variability regarding the number of chambers (5.5 to 6) in the outer whorl, their elongation degree and consequently the peripheral outline which may be more or less strongly lobate; in addition the spiral side may range from flat to almost pseudoplanispiral. Type images:

Original description: Test medium sized; coiled in a low trochospire, formed by about three whorls; peripheral margin stellate; five to six chambers in the last whorl increasing gradually in size as added; first chambers spherical, last two or three chambers elongate, acute and somewhat compressed; spherical to elongate in peripheral view; sutures straight, depressed on both spiral and umbilical sides; primary aperture extraumbilical-spiroumbilical bordered by an imperforate porticus; umbilicus wide and shallow relict flaps often observed umbilically.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Hedbergella kuhryi

Emended description:

Test medium sized, trochospirally coiled, slightly laterally compressed; 5.5 to 6 chambers in the outer whorl, increasing rather fast in size as added; chambers initially globular to subglobular, the last two or three tending to become radially elongate, laterally compressed and pointed at their end; spiral side flat tending to pseudoplanispirality; peripheral outline subcircular, strongly lobate to stellate; sutures straight to slightly curved on both spiral and umbilical sides; umbilicus broad and shallow; aperture as a low extraumbilical arch reaching the periphery. Wall smooth and finely perforate. [copied from Chronos database]
