Taxonomy

Citation: Hedbergella maslakovae Longoria 1974
taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Hedbergella maslakovae
Taxonomic discussion: This species is characterised by its minute test, very low trochospire, with a flat dorsal side, ovate to semi-elongate chambers in the last whorl, increasing slowly in height, and a wide umbilicus.
This species displays a small morphological variability mainly regarding the number of chambers (6 to 6.5) in the outer whorl, their elongation degree and the spiral side which may range from low to flat. [copied from Chronos database]

Type images:

Original description: Medium sized, test as with genus; consisting of 3 whorls; spiral side convex; peripheral margin circular, strongly lobate; 6-7 chambers in the last whorl; chambers inflated, ovoid to semi-elongate; spherical to ovoid in peripheral view; sutures radial, slightly curved on both spiral and umbilical sides; primary aperture extraumbilical to spiroumbilical, a low equatorial arch bordered by an imperforate porticus; relict apertures and flaps present on both spiral and umbilical sides; umbilical area wide; penultimate whorl partly exposed.

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Hedbergella maslakovae

Emended description:

Test medium sized, trochospirally coiled; 6 to 6.5 chambers in the outer whorl, increasing very slowly and gradually in size as added; chambers initially globular to subglobular, the last three or four tending to become slightly radially elongate, round at their end; spiral side very low to flat; peripheral outline subcircular, strongly lobate; sutures straight to slightly curved on both spiral and umbilical sides; umbilicus broad and shallow; aperture as a low extraumbilical arch reaching the periphery. Wall smooth and finely perforate. [copied from Chronos database]
