taxonomic rank: Species
Basionym: Globigerina tuschepsensis

Type images:

Original description: "Test small, round in outline, with a broadly rounded, scalloped peripheral margin. Consists of 9-10 spherical, rapidly enlarging chambers, forming 2-2.5 whorls with 4 chambers in each whorl. Chambers of initial whorl very small, distinctly discernible on dorsal side of test only at magnifications of X 80-120, lie nearly on a level with the following whorl or slightly over it. Chambers of later whorl much larger, the last one is especially distinguished, with a diameter barely not exceeding that of the 2 previous chambers taken together. In the center of the ventral side is a broad depressed umbilicus. Spiral and septal sutures distinct, depressed, last ones on dorsal side nearly straight, short, on ventral side a little longer, slightly curved. Aperture slitlike, extends along margin suture from umbilicus to peripheral margin. Wall very thin, finely perforate, semitransparent, smooth, shiny."

Entries in the Catalog of original descriptions: Globigerina tuschepsensis

Emended description:

Test small to medium, coiled on a flat to weakly depressed trochospire; 2 to 2.5 whorls; 4, occasionally 4.5, chambers in the outer whorl increasing slowly in the inner spire to rather rapidly in size as added in the outer whorl; last chamber twice as large the penultimate one; chambers globular to subglobular, possibly becoming slightly reniform in lateral view; equatorial periphery cross- to diamond-shaped, slightly to moderately lobate; sutures depressed, radial mainly straight; umbilical area wide and shallow; aperture as a low to medium arch bordered by a lip. Wall smooth, finely perforate, that may be covered by perforation cones in the early chambers of the last whorl. [copied from Chronos database]
