Taxonomy
Original description: Diagnose: espèce caractérisée par un test relativement peu épais possédant une périphérie nettement lobée, voire digitiforme (variété digitalis), et doué d'un enroulement assez peu serré, voire à tendance evolute (variété aperta).
[A species characterized by a comparatively thin test provided with a clearly lobate periphery or even having radially elongate chambers (variety digitalis) and a loosely coiled arrangement even with tendency to uncoil (variety aperta).]
[Description: small test with a wall finely and densely perforate; numbering 6 to 9 chambers in the last whorl in accord with the various subspecies; forming approximately two and half whorls and increasing gradually in size; the trochospiral coiling is slightly asymmetrical, the test comparatively thin with flat spiral and umbilical sides, with a low trochospire; the periphery is evenly rounded, the outline of the test strongly lobate.
The spiral side displays a last whorl sometimes sunken compared to the internal whorls, especially so for the last chambers; inflated chambers surface, sutures radial, slightly curved. Intercameral and spiral sutures strongly depressed. The umbilical side displays a large, widely open and shallow umbilicus; chambers surface inflated, sutures radial straight and strongly depressed; chambers with extensions of their walls that combine into a funnel-like umbilical plate.
The septal side is inflated, its dimensions varying according to the subspecies.
Ornamentation always present but relatively weak consisting of small round pustules that become bigger towards the periphery even merging into bigger and more irregular protuberances; ornamentation present on the internal whorls and on the 2-3 chambers of the last whorl.
The main aperture is interiomarginal in position, high, large and extending more than half-way from the umbilicus to the spiral side. The aperture is shielded by a well-developed but thin lip, the successive lips fusing into an umbilical plate shaped like a funnel. The supplementary aperture is partly intrasutural in position, usually not high but big and bordered by a weak ridge.
