Original Description

Shell thin walled, with irregular roundish, polygonally framed meshes, three to four times as broad as the bars. Radial spines arising from all the nodal-points of the network, pyramidal at the base in the distal half bristle-shaped, as long as the radius.

Diameter of the shell 0.12, pores 0.006 to 0.008, bars 0.002; length of the spines 0.07. [dimensions in mm]

Etymology:
Latin arcticus -a -um = boreal

Editors' Notes
There was no illustration of this species in Haeckel (1887)
Haeckel listed Acanthosphaera arctica under the subgeneric name Rhaphidodrymus, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
