Original Description

Shell thin walled, with irregular polygonal meshes, twelve to twenty times as broad as the bars; eight to ten on the radius. Radial spines bristle-shaped, arising from all the nodal-points of the network, about as long as the diameter of the largest meshes.

Diameter of the shell 15 to 2µm, pores 12 to 20µm, bars 1µm; length of the spines 20µm.

Editors' Notes
Haeckel listed Acanthosphaera capillaris under the subgeneric name Rhaphidodrymus,, but did not include the subgeneric name in the species name.
